• Nearly 11.5 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the United States in 2006, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
  
• Total 2006 cosmetic procedures in the US was approximately $11.0M.

One of the largest contributing factors is the aging baby boomer population which is not only spending money on these procedures, but also shaping the future of the cosmetic and plastic surgery industries. For instance, injectable cosmetic treatments are among the five top most requested aesthetic treatments nationwide last year.  According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 5 million women had injectable cosmetic treatments last year. However, due to consumer demand,  many of these procedures now use one’s own body fat as opposed to synthetic materials, such as skin fillers such as collagen or Botox which break down over time and yield a less attractive result.

Using one’s own body tissue lessens the risk of allergic reaction or infection and ultimately yields a much better result. Medical device manufacturers are rapidly developing instruments that allow for maximi­zation of live tissue transfer.
